Stockholm, alive
Personal project · 2026
A living portrait of Stockholm. Real public transport becomes an ambient city screensaver.
Watching a city move
I wanted to see Stockholm as something alive. Buses, trains and boats trace the city’s everyday rhythm across a dark map. Time and weather sit quietly in the corner. It is a small experiment in turning public data into something you can simply leave on a screen.
Movement does the work
Different transport modes have their own colours and small marks of light. You can move around the map and choose which traffic to follow. The visual work is in the balance: enough detail to recognise Stockholm, enough restraint to let the movement hold your attention.
The city, a little closer
The screensaver uses public-transport positions from Trafiklab, map data from OpenStreetMap and OpenFreeMap, and weather from Open-Meteo. The preview above is a short recording of the live experience.
